2015 Scholarship Awards Announced

First Female Edges Out Men to Earn 1st Place $3,000 Scholarship

The Save Oregon Wrestling Foundation (SOW) is pleased to announce its fourth class of scholar athletes. Congratulations to 2015 winners Jessica DeHart of Hood River Valley High School, Hans Rockwell of Riverside High School, and Alex Rich of Crescent Valley High School. These champions demonstrated remarkable academic and athletic achievement, extra-curricular participation, along with community service, and will receive annually renewable scholarship awards of $3,000, $1,000 and $1,000 respectively.

Funded by the Save Oregon Wrestling Foundation, this scholarship program was enacted to give greater opportunity to Oregon student athletes to further their education and compete in wrestling at the collegiate level. This program seeks to offset the loss of collegiate wrestling opportunities for Oregon’s many talented high school wrestlers. SOW has a long-standing history of promoting the sport of collegiate wrestling, and this fund supports Oregon’s great scholar athletes who share our commitment and represent our future. This year, 14 applications were accepted from Oregon students attending public schools in Redmond, Sandy, Sweet Home, La Grande, Roseburg, Milwaukie, Forest Grove, Ontario, Boardman and Corvallis.

The Save Oregon Wrestling Foundation is a nonprofit organization committed to the reinstatement of the University of Oregon Wrestling Program and the restoration of collegiate opportunity for Oregon’s great high school athletes. SOW created the Oregon Wrestling Scholarship Awards to help finance Oregon student athletes’ post-secondary education. The 2015 Oregon Wrestling Scholarship Awards finalists and award winners were selected through review and interviews conducted by the SOW scholarship committee comprised of SOW’s CEO and Co-Founder, Ronald L. Finley–who was also the 1984 U.S.A. Olympic Wrestling Coach, and is Head Coach Emeritus at the University of Oregon; and other members of SOW’s board of directors.
